DIAMON-FUSION®

Diamon-Fusion® is patented award-winning protective coating technology which can be easily installed on existing surfaces in homes, businesses and vehicles or mass-applied during a manufacturing process. DFI’s nanochemistry is applicable to most surfaces containing silica (silicon dioxide) such as glass, ceramic tile, porcelain, granite and quartz. The chemical reaction of Diamon-Fusion® bonds to form an ultra-thin protective layer of optically clear material which makes the surface significantly easier to clean, increases their brillianc mcwxpkog. longines klockor uke, protects that beauty, creates a more hygienic surface, and eliminates the need for harsh and harmful cleaning chemicals. It can also make glass surfaces more scratch and impact resistant. Click here to learn more about Diamon-Fusion®.

Diamon-Fusion® can be applied to surfaces that have already been installed or in an authorized factory or fabricator facility. If the surfaces has already been stained, Restoration will be required prior to the Diamon-Fusion® treatment in order achieve the long-lasting bond for which Diamon-Fusion® is famous. This method is done at nano-scale levels, which is a length scale of approximately 1-100 nanometer range (1 nanometer is 1 billionth of a meter. A human hair is approximately 40,000 nanometers thick). Nanometer dimensions are at the atomic dimension scale. The bond created in the patented process is a covalent bond. A covalent bond means that the coating shares the electrons with the glass itself, thus becoming a part of the glass. Covalent bonds are approximately 10 times stronger than hydrogen-bridge bonds, which are commonly present in most other water repellent coatings.

Stage 1
The chemical reaction created in the first stage causes a “cross-linked” and “branched” silicone film to be grown from below the surface out. After converting the chlorine atoms to OH groups using additional moisture (chlorine was left at the end of the atom chains after the first stage), a second specially formulated vapor is introduced to the surface.

Stage 2
The second stage ‘caps’ the entire chain of atoms. This unique ‘capping’ substantially increases the hydrophobicity and durability, leaving, chemically speaking, no points of attachment for contaminants and creating a truly repellent charge. A patented nanotechnology, improves and protects the surfaces of glass, tile, porcelain, granite, and most silica-based surfaces.

Surfaces treated with Diamon Fusion® become:

  • Highly water-repellent (hydrophobic), and so:
    • Require less frequent cleanings
    • Experience a reduction in mold and bacteria
  • Easier to clean – eliminating the need for harsh chemical cleaners.
  • Stain and graffiti resistant.
  • Oil repellent (oleophobic).
  • Scratch resistant.
  • Impact resistant.
  • Resistant to leaching of calcium and sodium (etching caused by hard water).
  • At least 1,000 times more electrical resistant (additional electrical insulation).
  • At least 20% more brilliant (shine in glass surfaces). Environmentally friendly.

Maintenance

Diamon Fusion® is similar to the development of Teflon®* for cooking pans. While you can cook food in uncoated pans, it is so much easier to clean if you cook with Teflon®* coated pans. If you burn certain foods in pans without non-stick coatings, it often means that you must throw the pan away. Those same foods when cooked in a coated pan, clean up rather easily. The same is true with Diamon Fusion® on glass or other silica-based surfaces. While you still must maintain your Diamon Fusion® coated surface, the time and effort required are significantly reduced. The warmer and dirtier the water, the greater the surface tension and spotting, thus shower doors require more maintenance than other applications.

What's special about treated surfaces is that those spots, if removed every few days, will not stick and can be easily removed with a damp washcloth. (You wouldn't put away your Teflon®* coated pan right after you cooked in it unless you gave it a quick rinse and dry. We suggest, every few days you use a body Loofah glove or a regular body scrubber (sponge). If you do notice a slight build up of grime, simply apply a little soap to the glove or body scrubber and gently wipe over the area, then rinse off with cold water. Simple as that! And all of this can be done while you are having your shower, saving you even more time.

Diamon Fusion® eliminates the need of any HARSH, EXPENSIVE and TOXIC CHEMICAL SHOWER SPRAYS.

Diamon-Fusion vs ShowerGuard

rrgregory 5 April 2013 I've been shopping for a shower enclosure and several shower and mirror shops are recommending one of these glass treatments, are they worth the extra money? Is one treatment type better than the other? Thanks Email Comment 108 Bookmark 41 Like 5 Comments (108) Thank you for reporting this comment. Undo PRO Norm Walters Construction Inc. Rain X works too.   Like     Bookmark     5 April 2013 at 2:58pm Thank you for reporting this comment. Undo PRO Guardian InGlass Hello - my name is Heather Lupu. I work for Guardian, the manufacturer of ShowerGuard. When looking at products like Diamon-Fusion vs. ShowerGuard it's important to note that any product which repels water (like Diamon-Fusion or RainX) is derived from organic chemicals to some extent. It's these organic chemicals which cause water to repel off the glass. However, as with anything organic, they will break down over time. To be fully permanent, ShowerGuard is derived from solely inorganic chemicals. This means your enclosure will maintain its corrosion resistant qualities with zero reapplications. So, it isn't really a question of which product is better, but rather what type of coating are you looking for - one that will repel water (Diamon-Fusion) or one that will permanently protect your glass from corrosion (ShowerGuard)? Another important thing to do is cross reference what each product offers. Here is what I found based upon the information available to you as the consumer: CLEANING GUIDELINES for both products are fairly similar: the use of common household cleaners about once a week. EASE OF DETECTION: Only ShowerGuard has a detector (most of our ShowerGuard Registered Dealers have these on hand when installing the glass) which can actually detect if the coating is present. This is important for installation quality and customer satisfaction. WARRANTY: Diamon-Fusion offers a lifetime warranty (for the water repellent feature only) on all but automotive glass. If they feel your claim is valid, they send you replacement coating to apply to your glass. ShowerGuard has a lifetime limited warranty, in which we send a technician out to your home to look at the glass and, if it appears there is a problem, we pay for the replacement of new glass. Since the inception of our warranty system, we have never had a coating failure. I hope this helps, please feel free to email me if you have any further questions at hlupu@guardian.com www.ShowerGuardGlass.com   6 Likes     Bookmark     9 April 2013 at 11:58pm Thank you for reporting this comment. I said it earlier today and I'll say it again -- a squeegee and wipe down only takes a minute or two after every use and keeps it looking clean. Undo PRO Diamon-Fusion International I would like to shed some light on many of the comments made here as there is a lot of inaccurate info thrown about that needs to be corrected. We are DFI, the manufacturer and patent holder for Diamon-Fusion coatings. The representative from Guardian stated that they need a detector to know if the coating is there. This is not the case with DFI coatings because they make the water so repellent that it acts like mercury, so it is obvious and visible with the water. Many of DFI's customers have the coating applied to both sides of the glass so knowing which side to put in is not critical but another way to know is to simply feel it. WE offer a lifetime warranty on more than water repellent feature. Because we are a true thin film unlike their coating, we give a lifetime warranty against cracking, chipping, peeling, hazing and yellowing of the coating as well. Treating the glass with our coatings fills in those pores so many of you have mentioned about untreated glass, so it feels MUCH slicker to the touch. The argument about corrosion vs water repellent resistance is not taking into account what actually occurs in a shower. Because glass treated with our coating is much more repellent, most of the water that carries the minerals that cause the milky white look is not on the glass long enough to do the damage AND because we fill in the pores, like a non stick pan in your kitchen, any spots that do remain come off easily with any cleaners. The reason Guardian sends out a technician to check their coating if there is a problem is because they CAN"T as far as we know send a repair kit. It has to be done in a factory and can't be repaired in the field. Ours can be done at factories in chambers or hand applied in the field which is why it can be maintained to never in effect wear out. Hydroshield is a simple silicone film that is not patented and has reasonably good consumer quality but you can purchase a better consumer applied product called ClearFusion V at Shopdfi.com and not only treat the new door, but all the other doors in your house for likely less money. DFi has shower door manufacturers around the world that have sold our coatings for over 15 years, why not ask a real reseller what his customers have told them? I say real because the Glass Company above called ATM is not and has never been licensed to sell our patented process so that company never had a chamber as a license is required. That said maybe the person commenting worked somewhere that did have one but why stretch the truth here? He commented on the chamber method not being as green as he thought but again the facts are that the Southern California Air Quality Management District has approved every chamber out there and they are the most strict section of the EPA. ATM mentions a competitor Clearshield Ritec (whom we have independent test results that we outperform) and gives them a glowing recommendation but I have to say I doubt he knows about the independent testing that was done to quell all these baseless claims. Again glass is quite porous IF IT HAS NOT BEEN TREATED. Squeegees work great but are what our coatings eliminate the need for when applied and maintained properly. I am sure some of you reading this are skeptical, so I will offer you a free small pre moistened towelette nanopax of a coating for you to try yourself. If you already have stains, no problem, let us know and we will give a small sample of stain remover as well so you can get a test area clean. The picture I have attached is showing two pieces of glass with water dripped on both sides but only treated on one side so you can see the mercury effect. For those who want to take us up on the free samples mention Houzz and send request to info@diamonfusion.com Thanks for listening.   8 Likes     Bookmark     11 April 2013 at 3:49am Thank you for reporting this comment. I have had a Shower Guard door for about a month in a hard water area of Southwestern New Mexico. The door does not get direct spray, and we squeegee. The door is already spotting terribly, and after Windex, Sprayaway, magic Eraser, and other recommendations from the website, I finally had some results with Kaboom and a Magic Eraser. So much for low maintainance.

Hello Sue,

Thank you for the inquiry and question about Diamon-Fusion low maintenance coating.

Diamon-Fusion is a patented, easy-to-clean protective coating that forms a covalent bond, creating an ultra-thin, clear protective layer making the surface significantly easier to clean and more resistant to soap scum, bacteria, dirt, weathering and more.

Some of the largest shower door manufacturers in the country use our protective, low maintenance coatings. We also offer a limited lifetime warranty and will gladly provide you the names of our retailers in Ohio that can offer this product.

ShowerGuard is a good coating offered by Guardian but tends to be more expensive and can not be applied in the field.

Thank you again for your inquiry, and we would gladly provide names of retailers in the Toledo, Ohio area. Or you can also ask the companies that you are working with in Toledo for Diamon-Fusion low maintenance coating.

For more information about Diamon-Fusion, please visit www.dfisolutions.com or call 1.888.344.4334.

We are a Glass Company in the Greater Philadelphia area. We work with many if the above mentioned names ie:Arizona shower doors, basco, cardinal, alumax, dreamline, century bathworks, etc. We also design and install custom shower enclosures using sourced glass and hardware. We currently install approx. 30 heavy glass showers per week ranging from custom enclosures to standard single doors.

From our perspective we believe Guardian Showerguard to be the premier product in the market for coatings. I've sold clearshield (oldcastle), aquaglide (basco), cardinal c-10, and some others. Like mentioned above if beading and water repellence is your goal look elsewhere from Showerguard. Showerguard is baked in during the float process unlike any other coating so it is true it cannot be re-applied. DFI made the claim that if their fails they come out and reapply. All of the research I have read says any applied coating not done in the factory will not hold up. Guardian however will replace all of the glass free of charge. (We did have one 6 years ago that they came out and re-imbursed us for all new glass) I wouldn't recommend anything other than showerguard to any of my customers. (every one of my quotes includes the option)

Take that for what it is worth, but we put in a lot of these showers and have experimented with many of the different coatings and showerguard is at the top of the pack by far. DFI may disagree, but my experience and research states different. I am however a big believer in coatings in general. If you are going to spend 2k plus the extra 10% or so is worth the money.

How about both? ShowerGuard would protect against long-term corrosion, built in at the factory, and Diamon-Fusion would cause the water to " ball up" and reduce or eliminate the need for squeegeeing?

Diamon-Fusion®
can be applied at the factory or in the field. The patented Diamon-Fusion is
the only protective, low maintenance coating that needs to be applied to a
shower door. Diamon-Fusion forms a covalent bond with the silica in the glass,
creating an ultra-thin, clear protective layer which makes the surface
significantly easier to clean and more resistant to soap scum, bacteria and corrosion.
Because Diamon-Fusion creates that covalent bond with the silica it needs to
have direct access to the glass. Applying it over ShowerGuard would not make
that possible.

Yes, that is correct. Because Diamon-Fusion creates a covalent bond with the silica, it needs to have direct access to the glass. When there is another coating (ShowerGuard), our coating can not reach the silica and create the covalent bond.

I have not seen any comments about the need for a shower door to be adjusted. As a glass installer for the past 43 years I've used both products with much success but due to the coating on DF, I've gone back many times on service calls ( at no cost to homeowner but an expense for our business not to mention good will ) to readjust a door that has slipped from its hinges. I'm not blaming DF per se, but the glass fabricators failed to cover the hinge area when applying the coating.

How does Diamon-Fusion compare to Hoskin & Muir's Cardinal 10 surface protection?

We recently remodeled our master bathroom and built out a large custom shower with glass barn doors. Living in Southern California with hard water, we wanted to take steps to keep our new beautiful glass shower doors clean and clear. We had our previous glass shower doors for 10 years and even though we used a squeegee daily and cleaned our shower on a regular basis, our glass doors ended up etched and with hard water stains. I came across this thread while researching ways to protect our new doors and reached out to Diamon-Fusion since I needed an after market application and the company was also located in Orange County. My initial contact was to see if they could recommend an applicator (yes, I realize that I could have purchased the kit and applied it myself, but we had made an investment in the doors already and I didn't want to chance me not applying the protectant correctly). The company quickly reached back out to me and scheduled a day and time to apply the coating. It has been over a month since they've applied the coating and I love the way Diamon-Fusion makes our shower doors shine! The coating makes it a breeze to keep clean and it is good to know that our doors are protected for years to come. I would highly recommend Diamon-Fusion.

Hello ddb2s,

Thank you for your question and interest in Diamon-Fusion and Cardinal 10.

Cardinal 10 is a coating DFI has specifically formulated for Cardinal. It is a high-quality coating with a ten-year warranty. Diamon-Fusion is DFI’s flagship coating. It comes with a lifetime warranty. The great news is that you can’t go wrong with either coating!

Best of luck with your project!

Thank you DFI. Can you tell me what the warranty covers in the first 10 years? And can this product be reapplied after 10 years? The vendor was not able to give me much information about this product, other than the fact that there is a 10-year warranty (but no details).

Thanks Danya for sharing this info!

Hello ddb2s,

As Danya mentioned, you can
find what Cardinal 10 Surface Protection warranty covers at http://cardinalshower.com/surface-protection/cardinal-10-surface-protection.

Cardinal 10
Surface Protection coating can technically be re-applied after 10 years, or at
any time, but it’s up to Cardinal’s individual dealers to decide whether they
provide this service.

By the way,
you may not need to have Cardinal 10 Surface Protection coating re-applied
because Cardinal Shower Enclosures may offer other coating maintenance products
to restore Cardinal 10 coating to its just-applied peak performance level.
Please check with Cardinal Shower Enclosures to see if they offer any
maintenance products like these.

Best regards,

we recently got an estimate for a new shower enclosure and were offered the Diamon-Fusion coating. They said nothing about a lifetime warranty...instead we were told the warranty was 10 years. Does this vary from state to state or installer to installer? We live in Ohio.

DFI - A lot of great information here, really enjoyed reading it all. We do not deal with glass but I do have a lot of customers ask about the type of products you described above. Tell me, do you deal with Thad Ziegler Glass Co. based out of San Antonio, TX? Do not have their number handy or I would call them direct to ask if they deal with your products. If they are not one of your dealers could you provide me with someone who does in the San Antonio/Boerne area?

I am getting a new clear glass shower door and the vendor recommends "diamond seal systems. Any experience with this product which sounds like the diamon-fusion as it claims a permanent covalent bond to provide indefinite protection from contaminants.

How long does the Diamond-Fusion coating on showers or windshields last? Seems like the videos I saw of the DFI coatings need to be reapplied every 3 to 6 months.

Hi Bobby,

Thanks for your question! For shower
enclosures, DFI provides a lifetime warranty. When properly maintained (simple
wipe downs), our coatings can last up to 15-20 years! Our lifetime warranty
will also make sure your enclosures are operating at peak performance.
Something that is available to you also, is our shower door directory, which
lists top U.S. installers, retailers and manufacturers - helping you find a local
dealer. http://www.showerdoor.directory/

When it comes to automotive windshields
the short answer is: it varies. Over 3,000 dealerships carry our product, a
handful of which include warranties for up to 5 years. However, the two major factors for determining the longevity
of our product are weather conditions and basic maintenance. For example: windshields
that sustain extreme harsh conditions in South Dakota will not get as much life
as windshields in milder climates, like California. For more serious automotive
enthusiasts DFI also carries its platinum coating called DFI Ultra (offering
significant durability).

Bobby, aside from your comment, we
would like to point out that Shower Guard does not have a coating used for the
automotive market (as this post is used to compare the two products).

If you have any further
questions/requests, don’t hesitate to ask. We are happy to help!

Thank you,

DFI Team

Bobby,

Thanks for your interest! A majority
of our products are sold B2B, so asking your local dealers specifically about
Diamon-Fusion products would be the best bet. Our DFI Ultra product and
Diamon-Fusion protective coating, as mentioned, are sold exclusively through
automotive dealerships.

For your
inquiry regarding our shower door coatings, I would recommend two things: 1) checking/asking
your local dealer for Diamon-Fusion protective coating, or 2) our consumer
grade do-it-yourself shower door startup kit.

Please let
me know if I can assist you in any other way, or help finding a specific
dealership/glass shop where you can specify our protective coating. I am happy to help!

Thank you

I had Diamond Fusion on my doors since last August....and they turned bad. I was squeeging them religiously. To the point of becoming a crazy person in my house when the kids forgot to use the squeegee. I believe my doors are ruined. I think all these coatings are shams. I regret getting glass now.

In addition...buyer beware of the DFI warranty...not much of warranty if your glass is ruined. Please read it closely.

As a professional shower door installer, I have used both products ( DF vs. ShowerGuard ) as well as Cardinal 10 and they all do a good job. My main complaint about Diamon-Fusion & Cardinal 10 is issues I've had with the glass door ( heavy 3/8" frameless doors ) slipping from the hinge which results in a costly expense ( no charge to customer ) to go back and adjust the door. I've been told by my glass fabricators that they cover the glass around the hinge while applying this after market wipe on coating. Nor do I like the policy that in the event of DF failure, a kit is sent to the homeowner for them to reapply. We no longer offer DF to our clients and instead offer ShowerGuard which is the only glass coating built into the glass and not an after market spray/wipe on coating. Should ShowerGuard not perform they send me a new door which we replace at no charge to our clients. ShowerGuard has a limited lifetime warranty.

UPDATE 4/18

Ironically, I got a call this morning from a customer for whom I installed a frameless door just over a year ago. He had his door coated with Cardinal 10 and the door has slipped from the hinge for the 2nd time and needs adjustment. I had gone back about 6 months ago and adjusted the door. Just another endorsement for ShowerGuard.

DFI, My installer stopped by to inspect my doors when I contacted him regarding my doors and about reapplying DFI at home. Several questions. How does this compare to the original coating? Does this coating wear off similar to Rain-X? A home remedy kit sounds like it is not permanent. But I am not sure, just my intuition. My installer is concerned with what he calls etching, where whatever minerals in the water creates a staining on the glass that is next to impossible to remove. How do I remove that, because applying DFI over that seems to not make sense. He said there is a paste called Sparkle that your rub onto the glass that may help? Please advise. Before I pursue your offer for the home kit, want to learn some more.

Hi
George,

Thank
you for your insight and thoughtful comments, and for being a past supporter…
and hopefully, a repeat customer after reading our reply! Pardon the lengthy
response as there are a few points that would benefit anyone reading this post.

From
the installer standpoint we certainly understand your concern of heavy glass
slippage when using coatings – especially those that work very well. However,
it should be noted that although there are instances where heavy shower doors
will slip from the hinge, this can be caused with or without a coating. It is
important to note that DFI also provides custom jigs of all sizes for the hinge area to ensure the glass will
not be exposed to the coating, thus
eliminating any concern of slippage being caused by our coating.
Would
this be something that you are interested in?

One
of the reasons ShowerGuard does not provide a maintenance kit, as the first
means of satisfying an unhappy customer, is because their shower doors product cannot be repaired in the field.
Consequently, if there is a problem with ShowerGuard,
dealers have to go to each site and take out the piece of glass and reinstall
the shower door themselves. This process could prove to be an inconvenience to
the consumer, double the work for the dealer, and may result in unforeseen
damage when ripping out and/or reinstalling the new shower door glass.
